Since 1980s，the volunteer activities in Beijing have developed for a fairly long time. There is positive interaction between volunteer activities and community development. On the one hand，the combination of the two is a natural orientation of volunteer activities. When more and more volunteer activities are carried out in communities，they help to promote community cultural construction，improve inter-community relations，push forward over-all development of community residents. On the other hand，community development helps to accelerate the spread of volunteer spirit. The volunteer activities in Beijing play the active functions of promoting inter-community exchange and contacts，enhancing community cohesion，providing indirect economic support for community construction. Yet there are still some problems and shortcomings in community volunteer activities in Beijing. The future effort should aim at strengthening their legal，scientific，professional，diversified and effective development.
