Building the sports and leisure characteristic towns has being a nationwide upsurge since May 2017，whose political significance，economic significance，social significance，cultural significance and ecological significance were very important in the background of the present times. Recently，General Administration of Sport of China published the list of the first batch of 96 sports and leisure characteristic towns，while every province also enacted policies to encourage characteristic towns building. At present，the towns' regional distribution is centered relatively while wide coverage，and emphasizing plan firstly，building the sport characteristic industrial chain，adjusting measures to local conditions，and attracting social capital actively are the basic situation of the towns building，while the inaccurate positioning，the lack of sports industrial chain and the insufficiently Excavation of sports cultural resources are the problems. Looking into the future of the characteristic towns building，we should avoid the tendencies of being a movement，being the real estate and capitalized projects，and we must make the towns have low carbon production，good ecology and livable life that committing to a people-centered approach，advance the towns' industrial convergence，industry-city combination and urban-rural integration under the integration orientation，highlight the towns' sports elements，sports function and sports culture with outstanding sports feature，building the things-connected，intelligent and sharing towns with meeting the tendency of development，adopt participatory governance，holistic governance and sustainable governance by innovating the system.
