<<One of the main features of British society in the 1950s is the emergency of distinct subcultural groups associated with youth and adolescence, and they've received wide attention from society and scholars. The paper discussed the causes、characteristics and types of these youth subcultural groups at that period by exemplifying one of the subcultural form Teddy boys. The relationship between their ‘parent’ cultures are also included. In addition,it also probed into the representations of youth subcultures in the novels of Britain in the 1950s. Not only did these youths have the free spirits of rebellion, they were also different from the negative reports of the mainstream on their juvenile delinquency. The analyses of the images of these subcultural youths in each novel open a new window to understand the youth subcultures in the 1950s from a new perspective of view.
