A comprehensive review on the opening situation of provinces in the western part of China in 2017 is done from the points of opening，foreign trade and demonstration models. In terms of opening to outside world，the degree of opening in these provinces varies，especially in the development of high-tech industry；with the launching and development of “the Road and the Belt” initiative，all the provinces’ opening to the related countries have achieved good effects. Although the foreign trade in these provinces shows good trend，there do exist some blank markets along the Road and the Belt；when the export product category is concerned，few covers high-tech products，but compared with the central and eartern part of China，the cultural and creative products show good export status. The demonstration projects have all contributed well to the local economy. Hence，it is proposed that the western part of China should focus on bettering the opening to the outside world，in order to contribute the overall high-quality economy development in China.
