Solving the problem of regional unbalance is an important part of China’s economic development in the new era. In order to further form a new pattern of high quality development in the western region，this paper constructs the quality evaluation system of economic development based on the definition of the theory and practice of the economic development quality with analytical framework of the economic development quality，and uses the principal component analysis method to measure and evaluate the quality of economic development in western region from 2000 to 2016. The results show that：The overall index of the economic development quality of the western region is unstable and low and fluctuating as a “N” type. And the quality of economic development in the regions is badly differentiated in the regional level. Besides，the linkage mechanism of regional coordinated development has not been established. Therefore，this paper puts forward a feasible path to promote the development of high quality in western regions from the aspects of improving the innovation mechanism，optimizing the industrial structure，improving the efficiency of resource allocation，improving the foundation of happiness and reducing the economic gap.
