In October 2007，the picture of a South China tiger from Zhenglong Zhou（a farmer in Zhen Ping County，Shan’xi）initially appeared to be proof of species previously thought to be locally extinct.Upon further investigation，however，the photo was proved to be a fake though the government’s refusal to accept the photo as a fake was considered as a “crisis of honesty”.The wide public response to the photo，especially from the online community which helped to prove its falsification，nevertheless helped promote awareness of the reduction of China’s biodiversity and the need to protect China’s remaining endangered species.
