Based on the definition of city level economic management connotation，the paper established Chinese city economic management evaluation index system which covering 4 index level：the establishment of decision-making level—economic level of regulation，market supervision level and government financial level. Considering the relative integrity and integrity of data availability and evaluation criteria，this paper selects 36 key cities including 4 municipalities，27 provincial capitals and 5 planned cities in 2015 to evaluate the level of urban economic management. The evaluation result shows that the first tier cities in the eastern region have the highest level of urban economic management；the level of urban economic management of the middle region cities is weaker，but the scores of some sub items are more than those of the eastern cities；the level of economic management area in the west of the city is relatively low overall level of the city；the level of urban economic management in Northeast China has declined obviously.
