The main contradictions of our society in the new era have changed into the contradiction between the demand of the people’s good life with the unbalance and the inadequate development，and the construction of the leisure city can effectively meet the growing leisure needs of the residents. With the building of a well-off society into a strategic decisive period，leisure city construction has become an important way to enhance urban competitiveness and release residents’ consumption potential. Starting with the background of the development of leisure city and taking urban leisure as the evaluation standard，analyze the development status and basic characteristics of the construction of 36 leisure cities in China. On the basis of this，put forward the upgrade path of leisure cities in future.
