《鹬鸟声声》作为一部批判现实主义的作品，有机地融合了客观写实的描述与象征的创作手法。塔哈·侯赛因用象征主义手法丰富了这部现实主义作品的表现手法，令作品从对客观世界的现实主义、写实性的描述，升华到了对现实情节的概括、象征化和哲理的反思，既具有鲜明的现实主义特色，又带有浓郁的象征色彩。
