作为现代社会的重要标志,“公共领域”是社会学研究中的一个核心议题。本文以哈贝马斯的公共领域理论为基础,考察了文化社会学在当代公共领域与公共话语研究中的理论创新。文章重点探讨了公众交流如何在公共领域中真实地展开,公共议题如何由多元公众所建构与争论,以及不同媒体组织与媒体形式如何影响公共话语的形成。结合对于中国公共领域的文化社会学分析,笔者认为,当代中国的社会经验与文化实践提供了超越西方传统公共领域理论的可能性。
<<This article,based upon Habermas’s normative ideals of the public sphere,discusses the three main analytical strategies that cultural sociologists use to study the public sphere and public communication. The first strategy is to examine how public communication actually operates in the public sphere. The second strategy is to recognize that issues of public concern are frequently interpreted and debated in multiple,overlapping publics. The third and final strategy is to consider the ways in which public communication is organized in and through specific media organizations and formats. The argument is that researchers who study contemporary public communication,especially in the context of today’s China and other non-Western countries,need a cultural sociology of the public sphere that moves beyond Habermas and beyond political theory. This cultural sociology is,at its core,an empirical research enterprise that is devoted to comparing the narratives and performances that are put forth in concrete publics,and is committed to exploring how different media organizations and different media formats incline to specific kinds of narratives.
