    名校生的出路分化——文化-行动二元路径模型下的一种补充性解释

    摘要

    关于学校-工作转换议题的主流理论视角尚有未尽之处:行动者通常仅被假定为理性选择者,其价值信念和动机要么被忽略,要么被有意无意地假定为追求最大私人工具性利益。本文借助解释学方法,通过理解学生毕业选择的意图与缘由的建构逻辑,力图将文化价值观对行动的影响也纳入分析视野,揭示学校-工作转换中阶层不平等的现实机制。结合文化资本理论与文化-行动关系之争论,通过对来自两所国内知名研究型大学的38名毕业班学生的访谈,本文根据“作为工具的文化”和“作为驱力的文化”两个维度建立了一个行动者的四分类模型——自我驱动者、机会主义者、迷失无从者、价值归顺者,并依托上述模型分析了不同家庭背景的学生获得毕业出路的不同机制。该模型表明:(1)不同阶层的毕业生树立行动目标的意识和运用文化工具组织策略的能力差距鲜明,理性选择解释仅对自我驱动者和机会主义者有适用性;(2)价值信念对于职业选择行为的作用应该引起研究者重视,特别对迷失无从者和价值归顺者来说,其职业选择可能受到学校文化价值环境和同辈文化的强化或制约。

    Abstract

    The mainstream perspectives of sociological research about class inequality in school-work transition usually presume students as rational actors,which are largely mute about motivation and values or merely simplified that individuals seek maximum quantities of exchangeable private goods such as wealth. Trying to understand the intentions,attached meanings,and rationales of career decision-making given by actors per se,this article turns to interpretative rather than positivist approach to seek a supplementary explanation beyond the rational-actor presumption. By interviewing 38 last-year male students from two culturally distinctive top-tier universities in China,inspired by theories on cultural reproduction and culture in action,this article builds a quadripartite typology of career chooser according to axes of “culture as instruments” and “culture as motivations”. The four types are named as self-director,opportunist,strayer,and follower. Four different mechanisms of career destination acquirement and the corresponding consequences on inequality are analysed respectively on the ground of this typology. Findings of this article indicate that:(1)rational choice assumption is appropriate for self-directors and opportunists but not for strayers and followers,which means students are much varied regarding acting rationally;(2)impact of values and meaning-making on career choosing deserves more attention of researchers. Especially for strayer and followers this impact can be constrained or enhanced by university cultural contexts shaped by organizational culture and peers.
