Island and island economy has been attracting more and more attentions from both governments and scholars as islands are playing bigger roles in political and economic issues internationally and domestically. The article classifies island economies into two categories and sorts out different organizations and forums or meetings of islands，and points out problems and weakness of current studies on island economy，such as weak basic researches，lack of academic articles and books，etc. Through analyzing the importance and significance of strengthening studies on island economy by Hainan Province as a typical sub-national island economy，the article puts forward suggestions and thoughts on relative studies，including mutual academic exchanges，utilization of current forums and academic networks，establishment of specific research centers，and most importantly，concept setting of Land-Sea Integration or coordinated development of land and sea.
