Traditional artistic skills contain the cultural values of the Chinese nation and the essence of wisdom of all ethnic groups.The inheritance and development of traditional skills is conducive to promote national culture，enrich cultural resources，and enhance cultural self-confidence.With the social development and environment changes，people's aesthetic values change too，and inheritors of these skills get aging and it is also difficult to make a living by these skills，so that the traditional skills once began to decline，and some even became endangered.In recent years，the idea of “productive protection” has provided new ideas for the inheritance and development of traditional artistic skills.

In the process of active exploration of productive protection，many places achieved certain achievements，but at the same time，also faced with many problems and contradictions.In this paper，we conducted field study of the productive protection of intangible cultural heritage in northwestern Hubei Province，revealed its survival conditions and problems，and explored the survival and development ways of traditional artistic skills.
