In 2016，China steps up efforts to promote security cooperation with neighboring countries in a bid to ensure regional stability. On the one hand，it has been strengthening regional security by deepening relations with great powers，and strengthening mutual trust and cooperation with other major powers on peripheral security issues； actively explaining China's policies on multilateral security issues at multilateral and international events； opposing the sensationalization of and the intervention in the South China Sea issue by some countries with ulterior motives； promoting the Belt and Road initiative and security cooperation； and promoting the new Asian security concept and the security governance model with Asian characteristics. On the other hand，it also faces many challenges in implementing its security-oriented peripheral diplomatic policy which needs to be deepened and consolidated.
