In modern China，the ruling party is deeply embedded in various fields of politics，economy，culture and society. However，in the study of Chinese university governance，the political party is often in a state of being obscured. In fact，as the extension of the “party-state” system，the ruling party shapes the function value，structural form and operational mechanism of universities in China comprehensively and profoundly. So it is wise to surmount western theoretical framework and based on china’s condition to take a hard look on the role of political party in universities’ governance and expound the theoretical logic，practice mechanism and system tension of the role of the party in power in constructing modern universities’ governance mechanism with Chinese characteristics and find out new horizons in the research on the governance of modern universities in China.
