21世纪以来，可持续发展在全球得到越来越多研究者的关注，且在各领域得到深入发展。土地资源的可持续利用已经成为世界各国关于环境变化研究的核心议题之一。随着可持续发展的全球炙热化，我国学者在土地资源领域也做了大量的研究和实践。土地可持续利用的主要内容是利用方式与方法上的科技创新，从土地的根本支撑职能出发，以目标设置为导向、在制定多元化方法以及综合性政策与管理策略等方面去实现社会经济健康发展和人类社会可持续发展的多方平衡。要保证土地利用过程中充分满足社会、经济发展的需要，必须完成从土地可持续利用到土地利用可持续的转变。
<<The sustainable development has received global attention constantly and it is widely developed in various fields. The sustainable development of land resources become an important issue in the world. China has also carried out a lot of research and practice on the sustainable use of land resources. Sustainable land utilization means the innovation of the utilization way and methods of land resources. While the sustainable development of land use is based on the basic supporting function of land，meeting goal setting as the direction，diversity method，a synthetic policy and management strategy to realize the balance of the social economy and the sustainable development of human society. To ensure that the land use process fully meets the needs of social and economic development，it is necessary to complete the transformation from sustainable land utilization to the sustainable development of land use.
