By summarizing the evolution process of sports characteristic towns in China，this paper states the connotation elements of the sports characteristic towns from four aspects，including leading industry，geographical advantage，factor agglomeration and compound consumption. Then，the concept of sports characteristic towns is put forward. After analyzing the international experience of the construction of sports characteristic towns，it is considered that there are some problems such as lack of leading industry，shortage of factors and resources，weak market，insufficient integration and other problems in the construction of sports characteristic towns in China. At the same time，this paper proposes the idea that constructing sports characteristic towns under precise management in China needs to design the construction process，build resource platforms，link various participators，promote industrial convergence and establish the evaluation system.
