中共十六大以来，湖北省的城乡一体化进程呈现明显的阶段性特征。第一阶段从2002年至2006年，为城乡统筹发展阶段；第二阶段从2007年至2010年，为城乡一体化起步阶段，湖北在全省范围内进行广泛的城乡一体化试点工作；第三阶段从2011年至2015年，为城乡一体化全面推进阶段，形成了一些城乡一体化发展战略；第四阶段从2016年起，这一阶段应该是湖北城乡一体化的深化、健全发展时期。
<<Since the 16th national congress of the communist party of China，the process of urban-rural integration of Hubei province has obviously presented stage characteristics.From 2002 to 2006，the first stage was characterized with balancing urban and rural development；The second phase from 2007 to 2010，was beginning to enhance urban-rural integration，through the pilot projects of urban-rural integration within Hubei province；the third stage from 2011 to 2015 was comprehensively pushing urban-rural integration ahead in whole province and developed the strategies for it；in the fourth stage since 2016，urban-rural integration has deepened and improved a lot in Hubei province.
