The Macau Special Administrative Region Government has revised the Legislative Assembly Election Law on the basis of the development of political system in 2012 and the Legislative Assembly elections in 2013. The aims of the revisions were to improve the legislation and to create fairer and more just elections. The revisions include improved regulation of campaign activities,heavy penalties for electoral irregularities,improved electoral management and criteria for candidacy and exercise of mandate. Controversies arose on issues such as political loyalty,regulation of advanced promotion,electoral assistants,declaration of campaign activities,deposits and funds,invalidity of mandate,extraterritorial infraction and the Electoral Management Committee.
