Based on Theil index and GIS，the paper measured the difference of economic and financial development in Jiangsu coastal areas from 2000 to 2014，and analyzed the spatial patterns of economic and financial development in 2000，2008 and 2014 with the ratio of per capita regional GDP to the mean value（R_e）and financial ratios to the average value（R_j）at the same time，then got the following conclusions.（1）The difference of economic development in Jiangsu coastal areas was more significant than the difference of financial development，the Theil index of the financial development difference was less than the minimum value of Theil index of the economic development difference in the most years，and the mean value of Theil index of the economic development difference was 1.7 times as the financial development’s.（2）The overall differences of economic development and financial development were showing a narrowing trend，but the trend of economic development overall differences was smaller than that of financial development overall differences. And the main factors for forming the overall difference were not the same，the leading factor of the economic development difference had been changed from regional internal difference to regional difference，the main factor of the financial development difference was always the regional internal difference，however，the contribution rate of regional differences showed an increasing trend.（3）The financial development pattern was different from the economic development pattern，the economic development of Jiangsu coastal areas was significantly different from the North to the South，while the structure of financial development showed city-centered groups，and the phenomenon of spatial agglomeration has been strengthened. Finally，it made some recommendations combined with the actual development of Jiangsu coastal areas，such as promoting the regional development strategy of finance，implementing different financial policies，paying attention to coordinating the relationship between financial development and economic development，building a benign interaction between economy and finance；establishing the mechanism for the coordinated development of economy and finance，deepening economic and financial reform policies.
