China’s newspaper industry faced both opportunities and challenges in 2016. On the one hand，coupled with the macroeconomic slowdown and strong impact of new media，the newspaper industry faced severe challenges——circulation had declined for several consecutive years；advertising revenues continued to drop sharply；newspapers had either died or turned to convergence or acquisition one after another，to name just a few. On the other hand，the newspaper industry was at a turning point of reshuffle. Along with the support of the government，the advancement of technology，the ongoing media convergence as well as the setup of professional development funds，there were new investment opportunities in China’s newspaper industry in 2016.
