<<The present research focus on the influence of disadvantaged group members’ perceived status on their creativity under the condition of culture mixing. We explored the mechanism of such impacts based on two types of intercultural status perceptions,i.e.,a balanced orientation based on perception of equal status and an imbalanced orientation based on perception of lower status. The results supported a positive relationship between the balanced orientation and individuals’ creative performance. Firstly, women’s creativity increases when they perceive an equal gender status in mixed gender context. Similarly,Chinese students’ creativity also increases when they perceive an equal intercultural status in the context of China and US cultural mixing. Secondly, independent self-construal moderates the positive relationship between status perception and creativity. Individuals with higher levels of independence are more likely benefit from equal status perception when they perform a creativity task. Thirdly, aside from personal trait, social cognitive reactions caused by status perception can also increase creativity. The reduced need for group belonging mediates the positive relationship between equal status perception and creativity. The cultural implications of these results are discussed.
