The year 2016 marked the first year of the fifth decade of China-EU relations. Under the guidance of the four partnerships for peace，growth，reform and civilization，the Chinese and European leaders made frequent exchanges during the year. Progresses were made in China’s relations with the European countries，with deepening pragmatic cooperation and new achievements in the fields of economy and trade. Expanding cooperation and joint development were the main themes in China-EU relations in 2016. It is true that disagreements and even trade disputes existed between the two sides，however，the divergences were limited within a controllable and manageable range. In all，a more mature and deepening relation between China and Europe is coming into being. The foundation for constructing broader，deeper and higher-level cooperation and a win-win situation as well as strategic interdependence for the future of China-EU relations has gradually formed. At the same time，China and the EU（including the Member States）still need to further consolidate mutual political trust，enhance pragmatic cooperation in various fields，strengthen coordination in global governance and deepen the integration of people-to-people exchanges in order to jointly promote the healthy，stable and sound development of bilateral relations.
