<<This study examines the identity negotiation on huaren.us which is an online community popular among female Chinese immigrants. Through the method of netnography, this research finds that this site has been regarded as “digital diaspora” with functions like providing information, getting emotion released, and reconstructing identity for its users. With intersectionality as the core theoretical framework, this paper recognizes a complicated identity intersecting ethnicity, gender and class on huaren.us:through language and discussion topics,a “Chinese” identity has been revealed;in terms of gender identity, the site emphasizes on women’s subjectivity and autonomy;besides,a middle-class identity has been manifested through the site’s emphasis on consumption and consumerism. The aforementioned three identities are not exclusively independent, instead, they influence and correlate with each other.
