This study carries out a content and text analysis of the 815 newspaper reports，from the newspaper database of Chaoxing database，on the left-behind girls in rural areas in China from the year 2007 to 2015. It is pointed out that the number of media report on left-behind girls is on the rise. However，media’s coverage of left-behind girls is far less than it should be and there appear imbalance in the area of the reporting as well as the reporting topic. Among others，the homogenization in reporting，the lack of gender awareness and sensitivity，the stereotype of left-behind girls in their media image are also the problems with media’s reporting on left-behind girls. Media should improve gender awareness，attach more importance on left-behind girls，report left-behind girls in a diverse and all-round way so as to make their voice heard and contribute to their development.
