Since the massive rural migration started in the 1980s there have arisen two trends - different modes of “exudes and returns” between women and men and men’s superiority in migration. This difference is gendered and results from the intersection among rural-urban dichotomy, nature of markets, gender roles in family, and gender stereotypes. Gender difference in migration continues as the rural-urban dichotomy exists, giving rise to feminization of agriculture,on the one hand, and on the other hand, family separation together with the separation of production and labor reproduction along the rural-urban divide. The existence of this divide expands women’s domestic responsibilities. As a result, women’s care work has been further devalued, reinforcing traditional gender role of women—an issue that calls for attention.
