<<Entertainment industry (or sex industry) has become a global problem. A large number of women from the global South are migrating into the cities of core nations and engaged in sexual works for their livings. This study formulates an integrative theoretical framework of political economy with three realms of foci:Semiperiphery in the world-system,local patriarchy, and the state policy,to investigate Korean women’s participation in domestic and global entertainment industries since the 1960s. By examining the sex businesses near U.S. military camps in South Korea and Korean prostitutes in Japan’s cities in the theoretical frame,it is believed that we can improve our understanding of the socioeconomic and political contexts in that Korean society produced vast number of women in sex industry and many of them were/are headed for Japan and U.S.,and the way that Korean women identify sexual works as their daily parts of life.
