As the global economic crisis starting in the late 2008 impacted the employment，family and life of Chinese migrant population，there has been a number of regional surveys about the crisis’ impact on migrant workers，but these surveys generally lack gender perspective. This paper examines，from a gender perspective，how the economic crisis has impacted the lives，family and work of women and men workers as they have migrated between selected rural and urban regions in China. Lastly，the authors analyze gender-sensitive policies，proposal to change existing gender inequality to improve migrant workers’ lives which is a critically important concern for women’s empowerment.
