<<The paper provides a comparative perspective on social science research about gender inequalities in various regions of the world:Asia,Africa,Latin American and the Caribbean, and Europe. It examines what issues and research findings about gender inequities reflect unique national political, economic or social dynamics, and which reflect more common regional dynamics,as well as the relationship of gender inequality studies to the national or and transnational feminist movements that can shape these research questions. On the one hand, global and national movements provide impetus for feminist research. Yet feminist research also provides the foundation on which activists can find solutions to important local and transnational women’s concerns. In addition,it is essential that the sharing of knowledge is reciprocal between the global North and South, and that we promote the circulation of transnational intellectual flows that can inform locally based women’s studies and gender research (and vice versa),connect local organizers and researchers in different nations to one another, and undermine patriarchal power structures in all their forms.
