移民和散居人口的学术研究越来越多地关注同时参与祖国和目的国的问题,因为人们发现自己既没有被目的国也没有被祖国充分同化。最近关于取代移入/移出概念(意味着脱离祖国和在目的国定居)以及散居概念(强调从自己的祖国迁出)的运动,已经导致了跨国主义概念的传播。跨国主义不仅仅是描述古老现象的一个新词,它强调的是通过在其他国家定居而引起的国家形成的动态过程,对祖国和目的国都不赋予特别的含义,把时空打碎形成一个单一的社会领域。本文的观点是祖国和目的国之间的联系是移民现象的固有方面。种族、阶层和社会性别与移民条件互相影响,并且在移民后来建立的社会关系网中扮演着重要角色,而且往往能产生复杂的“想象的共同体”。这一共同体的形成通常伴随着不同的、冲突的原则。有时候,这些“想象的共同体”符合跨国主义的根本意义,即超越与某一特定的出生地或种族群体、国家集团紧密相连的忠诚。
<<Scholarship on migrants and diaspora populations increasingly has been concerned with the issue of simultaneous participation in home and host countries,as people find themselves neither fully assimilated into their adopted country nor at home in their country of origin. A recent push to replace the concepts of emigration/immigration (implying a break from origins and settling in the host country) and diaspora (stressing the displacement from one’s home country) has led to the spread of the concept of transnationalism. Transnationalism is not just a new word for an old phenomenon;it emphasizes the dynamic process of nation-making as anchored across nations (and states),privileging neither place of origin nor adopted land,and collapsing time and space into a single social field. It is my position in this paper that,although connectivity between source and destination points is an inherent aspect of the migration phenomenon,race,class and gender intersect with conditions of migration to play important roles in the resulting networks among transmigrants and often generate a multiplicity of “imagined communities”,that are organized along different and often conflicting principles. On occasions,these imagined communities conform to the root meaning of transnational—extending beyond loyalties that connect to any specific place of origin or ethnic or national group.
