    城市居民社会网络中的差序格局

    摘要

    对2000年北京城市居民社会网络调查资料的统计分析发现,提名顺序与网络密度、交往频率和所讨论的重要问题的性质相关。与自我关系越密切的人,越会较早进入自我的网络提名名单。与此相关,关系持续越长久和交往频率越高的人,越早成为自我的讨论网成员。同时,越早提到的网络成员,与自我讨论的问题更可能是混合性的。工具性内容随着提名的延后而增加,而情感性内容则随着提名的延后而减少。这些发现在很大程度上验证了费孝通先生在半个世纪以前提出的用于描述中国传统社会结构的“差序格局”理论。北京城市居民讨论网的提名顺序还意味着,不仅在工具性行动中存在着一种由亲到疏、由近及远的差序格局,而且在包含工具性、情感性和社交性内容的混合性功能的讨论网中也存在着大致相同的模式,这也许是差序格局理论的现代扩展。其实,费孝通自己也承认,传统中国社会关系的差序格局是工具性和道德性责任感的统一。人们优先提名那些与自我血缘关系密切的家人和近亲,也许是亲属之间有较强道德性责任感的体现。

    Abstract

    A survey conducted in 2000 about the social network of residents in Beijing found that the sequential order of the member list of one’s personal social network issued by interviewees themselves co-relates with the density of one’s social network,the frequency of social interaction,and the range of significant issues in which the interviewee would consider to involve a specific partner. The more intimate and the longer the relationship is and the higher the frequency of their social interaction,the more likely a specific partner to be put on top of the list. Meanwhile,the higher the position of a partner on the list,the more likely he or she would be considered by the interviewee as a suitable interlocutor for a wider range of significant issues. As we go down from the top to the bottom of the list,the instrumental contents of social interaction tend to increase while the affectional contents decrease. To a large extent,these findings prove the validity of“the differential mode of association”thesis proposed by Fei Xiaotong half a century ago. Moreover,they also illustrate that“the differential mode of association” appears not only in social networks based on instrumental relationship but also in those based on mixed relationship,i.e. a combination of instrumental,affectional,and social interaction,which could well be considered as a modern extension of“the differential mode of association”thesis. In fact,as Fei Xiaotong has observed himself,“the differential mode of association” in traditional Chinese society is a unity of instrumentality and moral obligation. The fact that interviewees tend to put one’s family members and closely connected kinsfolk on the top of the list might be seen as a reflection of the stronger bond of moral obligations between them.
