From the spatial level of whole region, sub-region and counties, this paper has measured and evaluated the degree of multidimensional poverty and self-development capacity of Wulingshan contiguous Destitute Area in 2003, 2007 and 2011. The results showed that: (1) The multidimensional poverty was serious and the self-development capacity was very limited for the whole region; (2) The multidimensional poverty degree and self-development capacity existed difference among sub-regions; (3) The relative position of multidimensional poverty and self-development capacity between counties was relatively stable during 2003-2011; (4) The counties which more destitute and self-development capacity more weaker were relatively concentrated in the spatial distribution, otherwise, the counties which less destitute and self-development capacity more stronger were relatively dispersion in the spatial distribution.
