Based on the data gathered from a national sample survey on minors aged 10-17 in 2011, this study analyses the present situation with internet use by Chinese minors, summarizes some basic features, and points out major existing problems with their internet use. The major finding of this study is that despite the higher Internet Penetration Rate (IPR) in China, some problems such as a lowering age of internet use, excessive internet use, predominance of leisure and recreation, and underdevelopment of specific websites for minors, do persist. In order to ensure a better use of the internet by minors, the government should improve the internet environment, combine active guidance with rational control, and support the development of related industries.
