South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is a regional international organization composed of the eight countries in the subcontinent of South Asia. The Cooperation aims to improve the quality of life of the people of South Asia; speed up economic, social and cultural development; promote mutual trust; strengthen regional cooperation and cooperation with developing countries and other international organizations. The SAARC insists on the principle of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence, non-interference in internal affairs and mutual benefit. This article firstly introduces the general situation of the cooperation mechanism of SAARC, including the two aspects of organization structure and cooperation aspects; then introduces the overview of environmental cooperation in the SAARC, including environmental protection cooperation agreements have been signed, the key areas of cooperation, the items being executed and international cooperation. Among them, the key areas of environmental protection includes:natural disaster management, coastal management, forest protection, climate change, garbage disposal and bio-diversity. As of the beginning of 2015, there were 10 major cooperation agreements signed, 2 items being executed; in the aspect of international cooperation, it signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation with 3 international environmental cooperation organizations.
