The public bicycle system in Hangzhou is a model of commonweal green travel in China. As the largest public bicycle system project in the world at present, providing conveniences for commuting, shopping, relaxation, body-building and sightseeing, it has been favored by citizens and visitors and has become a glistening gold card of Hangzhou. This paper introduces the background of its construction and the general situation of its development, and mainly focuses on its characteristics including a wide coverage, connection with buses, conveniences for tour, being free within the first hour, renting and returning at any service spot, intelligent management, etc.. And then, its major experiences on scientific planning, emphasis on public welfare, public traffic-orientation, commercial development, proper maintenance, etc. have been summarized, aiming at publicizing the idea of green travel, extending its effects, and providing other cities domestic and abroad with reference for the development of their public bicycle systems. <<
