<<A core element of social mentality is power distance orientation which is a value related closely with justice judgment. The mean and score distributions of power distance orientation of 601 college students was descripted based on comparisons between different subgroups of gender, grade and major. Moreover, the moderating role of power distance orientation in the relationship between the severity of deviant behavior and punishment recommendation was explored by using the paradigm of punishment. The results showed that college students in Beijing held a low level of power distance orientation no matter of their gender, grade or major. Those who held lower level of power distance orientation tended to give more punishment when the deviant behavior was more severe. We discussed the implications of our studies for the social mentality research with combination to previous studies of power distance.
