>This paper reviews the experience of migration in other economies and tries to draw some useful insights to contemporary China where the largest migration takes place. Comparing to the length and speed of rural to urban migration happened in other countries，China has the most rapid urbanization. The impacts of migration on changes of economic structure，rural development，destinations，and regional disparities are also taken into account. As unique features，transitional and institutional factors that block rural to urban migration in China are also analyzed in this paper.
