>In the past two years，the government has introduced a series of policies which are favorable to rural migrant workers regarding education for their children，shelter and aid，insurance for work related injuries，technical training etc. These government policies have had a positive impact on changing the disadvantaged status of rural migrant workers and on promoting social equity and stability. However，there are currently 100 million rural migrant workers，a number that will at least double if the rest of the 150 million surplus rural laborers also enter the cities. Some have realized that the government may not have the power to resolve these social problems in face of such a massive community and have turned to search for resources and power from sources outside the government. Nongovernmental organizations（NGOs）are one such source. This paper introduces the developmental history and the current state of NGOs which serve rural migrant workers in China，and analyzes the type，experiences and challenges of the organizations.

As shown in the historical review and case studies presented in this paper，rural migrant worker NGOs are still relatively early stages of their development. However，the appearance of these organizations has created positive experiences for solving the problems of rural migrant workers in China. In summary，these experiences include：（1）Like other NGOs，these organizations have created a new model for solving the problems of rural migrant workers，that is the nongovernmental non-profit model.（2）The appearance of rural migrant worker NGOs，particularly those that are initiated and established by rural migrant workers themselves demonstrates that rural migrant workers are an active community，that they can organize and mobilize themselves to solve their own problems.（3）Some NGOs have incorporated social development content regarding gender，education，ethnicity and other aspects into their organizational philosophy.（4）Rural migrant worker NGOs have been successful in attracting various kinds of social resources.
