Women in media have made significant strides during the past 40 years in Europe and America especially in television and in TV News. Although there has been a clear growth in the numbers of on.air reporters and female anchors, the number of women on air is still less than their male counterparts. Women have made far less progress,in positions of senior management and decision making. Apart from a handful of top executives, very few women exercise power in media circles.Media analysts in the West have long argued that the news agendas chosen and the global image of women shaped would be different if more women were charged. There are many areas we could focus on in treating women in media:entertainment, film, advertising, public relations, print journalism, radio, television,or the internet. In this article,we focus mainly on the TV news industry and highlight developments in the United States,Britain, and a few European nations. Where possible,we also draw some comparisons with Asia.
