The year 2014 saw a generally stable political situation in the UK. Scotland voted to stay in the UK after the voters decisively rejected independence. However, the process of devolution would be further carried out not only to Scotland, but to the rest of the UK. The continuous rise of the UKIP had put greater pressures on the coalition government, especially concerning its EU policy. The UK economic recovery was extremely strong, while its public finance was still weak. The focus of the government’s social policy was on curbing immigrants from both the non-EU and EU countries, which had, among other things, strained its relations with the EU and the other EU states. China-UK relations had been enhanced.
