<<In this new era of comprehensively deepening reforms,Partners in Public Service is significant as a frame of reference to be revisited as we think about how the relationship between government and society should be properly dealt with. In this book,Salamon undertakes an in-depth analysis of the theory and practice of collaboration between government and nonprofit organizations. He presents us with a theory of “third-party government” and “voluntary failure”,and draws on empirical data in a systemic attempt to demonstrate how interaction between the US Government and nonprofit organizations works in practice. On the whole, this book makes an outstanding contribution through its emphasis on the interaction between nonprofit organizations and government,to the transformation of the current paradigm of nonprofit organization theory and to research methodology. There is,however, room for improvement when it comes to the dialogue between the book and existing theory, and we are still awaiting greater exploration of the theory of collaborative governance by government and nonprofit organizations. But these small weaknesses do not detract from the overall strengths of the book. As a collection of some of Salamon’s most classic work, the book still offers us much inspiration as we push ahead with reforms of the relationship between government and society.
