Based on a random survey conducted in Hubei Province in August 2012,this paper examines China's Internet users' political mentality and online political participation, and their possible antecedents.Data analysis discovers that at the present, when 40% of the total Chinese population is going online, users and non-users of the Internet have similar political mentality.Traditional media (i.e.,TV and newspaper),however, only have relatively limited effect on shaping audiences' positive political attitudes.People who have higher internal political efficacy and who have stronger political interests are more likely to participate in various political activities, both online and offline.Data analysis also discovers that in China,Internet use itself has political implications. The author argues that in the future, when the Internet goes deeper into people's life, online political participation will be more and more popular.
