Rural area is the focus and land is the core element of the overall planning of urban and rural development. An analysis of the data collected in an investigation on farmers' economic behavior relating to land in Chengdu and surrounding areas indicates that the industrial development in cities and new rural areas, the degree of organization of land transfer, and the safeguarding and service measures available to farmers are playing positive roles in guiding farmers to participate in the process of non-local and local urbanization, and in ultimately realizing the mutual promotion between the intensive and scale management of land and industrialization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization. This article also carries out a statistical analysis of the factors affecting farmers' urbanization behavior and proposes relevant countermeasures.
