The total number of crimes in China in 2012 rose, but the general situation of public security has been stable. There has been a drastic decrease in gun-related and other serious violent crimes but a relatively significant increase in economic crimes and a steady rise of crimes committed by the abuse of public power. The number of cyber crimes has also been on the rise. For 2013, the expectation is that there will be no dramatic changes in the total number of crimes and the public security situation will become even more stable.
