Europe’s leading business district，La Défense was developed in the post-war context，as a result of a unique combination of urban planning and market logic. Through its economic and spatial configurations，the district of La Défense reveals the social and economic changes，as well as the urban transformations that occured in France in the second half of the 20th century. The history of its development may therefore provide relevant lessons and insights for current policy.
