除因两岸关系紧张外，台湾民众表现出安土重迁的倾向，近6年来海外移民仅增加了2。8万人。台籍海外华人主要聚集在西方发达国家，尤其是在美国的人数最多，占一半之强。他们的考量是“生存安全”，求学也占很大一部分，近年来也有为养老或追求更好生活环境者。在东南亚的人数虽多，但多为早期移民，近些年除台商投资越南外，几乎不再往那里移民。现今的台湾民众与早期因生存困难而向外迁移已不一样，聚集地也有很大变化。
<<The people of Taiwan showed a tendency of homebody except for the tensions between Mainland and Taiwan，the overseas Chinese from Taiwan just only increased 28000 people over the past six years. The overseas Chinese from Taiwan mainly gathered in the Western developed countries，especially in the USA，who accounted for half of them. What they really cared was the “survival security”，and studying in abroad also accounted for a large part of immigration，and so did the life environment. The numbers of overseas Chinese of Southeast from Taiwan were numerous，but mostly were the early settlers；they hardly immigrated to there except for the investment to Vietnam in recent years. Today，the people of Taiwan immigrating to the outside are different with the early times for survival，and the gathering places have had a great change.
