In the regional election in 2010,the National Action Party (PAN in Spanish Acronym) and the Party of Democratic Revolution (PRD in Spanish Acronym) formed a coalition to challenge the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI in Spanish Acronym). The Calderón government launched an anti-drug program and thus was facing a rising crime tide made by drug cartels. Economically Mexico succeeded in securing an economic recovery in 2010. The Calderón government expected to increase people’s income and reduce deficit in the coming year. Mexico was active on the global arena diplomatically and sought to cooperate with the United States and other regional countries to battle organized crime. It is especially noteworthy that Mexico made a landmark decision to participate the UN peace-keeping operations.
