Chicago was traditionally a major industrial center in Great Lakes. Ever since late 1960s, Chicago, the center of industrial Rust Belt, did not escape from the economic crisis in Mid-west American continent, entangled in city depression, brain drain, economic recession, etc. After 30-year-long industrial transformation from passive to active reform, Chicago takes advantage of its geographic locale before converting its role from an industrial base into a great metropolitan featuring modern service industry like finance, transportation and culture. During the process, Chicago is proud of its emphasis on building its cultural foundation leading its future transmutation. Therefore, this paper takes the perspective of Chicago's cultural construction experience, in order to deduce its inspiration for Guangzhou's urbanization path and its efforts to cultivate a world-famous cultural city.
