Two hydropower projects，under construction by China Huaneng Corporation and China Huadian Corporation on the middle reach of Jinshajiang River，were suspended by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2009 for illegally cutting off the river without receiving approval of a main EIA report. The ban is so far maintained. Chongqing Green Volunteers Union （CGVU），an environmental NGO in China，applied for administrative review to Ministry of Environmental Protection and National Development and Reform Commission. Then CCGVU also lodged public-interest civil proceedings to Wuhan Maritime Court，requesting the court to order these two power stations to end the illegal construction and recover the damages caused on the natural environment in the result thereof.
