In July 2013, an Asiana Airlines flight carrying a Chinese study tour, which includes 34 students and teachers from Zhejiang Jiangshan Middle School, slammed onto the runway while landing at San Francisco airport. Three students were killed in this accident, immediately bringing the issue of overseas study tour into the spotlight. As a unique of learning, study tour has long remained popular in China. With more and more Chinese students choosing this special way of learning, the organization of overseas study tours has become increasingly commercialized and market-oriented. Meanwhile, due to the lack of supervision, repercussions began to emerge. The Asiana Airline tragedy calls attention to the examination of the overseas study tour market. To this end, this paper reviews the situation and features of the study tour industry in China, and offers some suggestions for solving its existing problems.
